Rifle/Pistol Rules

Violation of the rules on this page, the Safety Rules page, or the Range-Specific Rules page will subject violators to immediate ejection and forfeiture of all range fees! Range masters and management reserve the right to revoke your membership if you violate any of these rules!

General Pistol & Rifle Rules

  1. Eye and ear protection is mandatory on all ranges at all times. The range starts at the overhang.
  2. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded
  3. Keep the muzzle pointed down range at all times.
  4. Keep actions open and unloaded and finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  5. You must call the range hot (handling and shooting of firearms allowed) and cold (all guns unloaded and actions open) yourself, before people can go down range
  6. Actions must be open, bolt face visible, and magazines removed when people are down range.
  7. Ensure the firing line is clear/cold before going down range.
  8. DO NOT HANDLE/TOUCH GUNS, AMMO, OR ANYTHING ON THE BENCH WHEN PEOPLE ARE DOWN RANGE OR WHEN THE RANGE IS COLD. When the range is cold step back from the bench until the range is hot.
  9. Shoot only targets in or on provided target frames, or an equivalent frame. Targets must be an appropriate height so all rounds will impact the berm without ricocheting off the ground.
  10. Shooting rocks, bottles, cans, food, etc. is unsafe and strictly prohibited.
  11. All metal targets must be at the base of the berms or tall enough that if you miss the target the rounds will impact the berm.
  12. Ensure all rounds directly impact the backstop/berm without striking the ground first. If your rounds are not hitting the backstop/berm, adjust position of your target on the backer/frame.
  13. No centerfire rifles on F or G ranges. No pistols on A, B, or D ranges.
  14. When shooting shotguns: you may only shoot slugs at our target backers. Birdshot may be shot into the backstop/berm with permission of the Range Safety Officers ONLY! If you destroy the ranges’ target backers with birdshot, you will pay $10.00 and will be asked to leave the range.
  15. ABSOLUTELY NO TRACER OR INCENDIARY AMMO!

Brass Pickers Policy

The BRSP Board of Directors has decided to charge a fee for anyone that is picking up spent cartridges for profit (brass) on the BRSP property. This includes spent cartridges that will be sold for scrap, at gun shows and other commercial ventures. This fee will not be applied to the casual shooter that picks brass for their use. The fee will be $10 per day per brass picker. The fee will be paid on the last day of the month at the Rifle and Pistol Club house during normal business hours. The brass pickers will sign in with the RSO on duty before they will be able to start picking brass. If brass picker fails to sign in with the RSO they will be asked to leave the property, if this happens five times the picker will be banned for 30 days. Brass pickers will only be able to pick up brass on unoccupied ranges. Unoccupied ranges are defined as no shooters on the range at all, whether they are setting up, shooting or tearing down and packing up. Please see attached policy letter. Thank you for your cooperation. Brass Pickers Policy Letter April 2018

Ice Cleats Must Be Worn On All Rifle and Pistol Ranges

Due to recent warm temperatures and slick ice conditions, every person on the rifle and pistol ranges MUST WEAR ICE CLEATS AT ALL TIMES starting Sunday March 18, 2018 until further notice. Please take extra care in the parking lot directly in front of the ranges. When range conditions improve, we will lift this mandatory requirement. However it is strongly recommended that all shooters bring ice cleats with them to the range throughout the winter as conditions can change quickly. Please exercise extreme caution while driving and walking on the property.  Ice cleats are available for purchase at the Rifle/Pistol Office during office hours. Quantities may be limited, so please plan ahead. During EPM hours, members and guests must also be wearing cleats while on the property. We realize this requirement may be inconvenient to some of our shooters, but safety is our first priority. Thank you for your understanding.

An Open Letter to all BRSP Members

The BRSP Board of Directors (BOD) has carefully considered the current membership system and is implementing some changes. Currently, General Members are charged $119 per year ($99 per year Active Military and Seniors). “Exclusive Park Member”,  (EPM),  membership is $199 per year ($149 for Active Military and Seniors). There is also a Student Membership, for $10.00 per year, for those young shooters participating in leagues and other youth programs who are not covered under a family membership. General members are charged a $5.00 range fee per visit for each individual shooting on the Rifle and Pistol ranges, and increased fees for shooting clay targets, that amount to $1.00 extra per round of 25 targets. EPM members do not pay the range fee, and shoot clay targets at the reduced rate. Both General and EPM memberships are family memberships, which cover your spouse and children living at home under the age of 18 or age 23 with a valid student ID. EPM Members have access to the facility from 7:00am to 10:00pm, seven days a week, 364 day a year, (excepting the annual Youth Day in June). The General class of members may only shoot during the hours the park is open, i.e. those times when the gate is open, and the park is staffed. Recent events with respect to park access and other issues, including liability, have resulted in the Board of Directors (BOD) re-examining the classes of membership. At present only 4.4% of the membership is composed of members in the General Membership classification. As a result of our review the BOD has elected to take the following action: 1.Effective 1/1/18 there will no longer be “Genera”l and “EPM” member, just “Members”. “Members” will have all rights, privileges, and access currently enjoyed by “EPM” Members. The annual cost of membership will be $199 ($149 for seniors and active duty military). Student membership will remain the same at $10.00. Current General Members will be allowed to continue in their current status until their membership expires at which time they will have to pay the increased membership price. Current General Members, who wish to do so before their membership expires, may immediately upgrade their membership on a pro rata basis. Anyone not a current member may utilize the park by paying for a $20.00 48-hour membership and paying the range fees for each shooter and increased clay target fees. The BOD apologizes for any inconvenience that this change in membership structure causes, but we are convinced it is in the best interest of both the park, and the membership. Anyone who uses the park even just a few times a year will make up the difference in price between the current General and EPM membership fairly quickly with the savings on range fees and clay target costs after which there will be ongoing savings. Dave Kaiser President, BOD
